LCKC Athletes Excel in Chula Vista

Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club athletes captured 11 of 18 Junior World Championships Team Pool spots AND 3 of 10 Senior World Cup tour spots at the USA Canoe Kayak National Team Trials at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

At the conclusion of the US National Team trials, three Lanier athletes are packing up to compete in the International Canoe Federation World Cup Tour in the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.

Lanier Athlete Morgan House was Champion of the US National Team Trials Coming FIRST every time he was in a boat that raced. Lanier teammate Tim Hornsby raced with House in K2 and K4 and will also race in Europe. Lanier athlete Emily Mickle had a blistering 1st place finish in the Women’s K2 with Emily Wright .

The Senior World Championships team will be finalized at a second set of trials in July. The ICF Senior World Championships will be contested in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in August.

11 of 18 Junior athletes named to the Junior World Championships Pool are from Lanier. This group will travel to Lake Placid, New York in June for a three week training camp. The US Junior World Championships team will be selected from this pool. The ICF Junior World Championships will be contested in Moscow, Russia in late July.

All of these athletes were awarded spots on the team and an invoice for up to $5000 for the World Cup tour and $600 for the Lake Placid training camp. Additional funds will be needed if these athletes qualify for the World Championships team. These trips are funded by the families and communities of the athletes. A tax deductable GOAL fund has been set up at the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club to help support these young athletes.
