Marathon Team Trials

The weather was overcast and windy, but the racing was great for the tandem events. The mens Senior K-2 was a 30K battle between Robert Cleeg - Barend Spies and Lanier paddlers - Steve Corlew and Ty Hagler. Cleeg and Spies had finished 1st and 2nd on Saturday then teamed up for the K-2 event. Corlew won the K-1 bronze. The two teams were never more than a boat length apart for the entire race. Spies and Cleeg finished a half boat ahead of Corlew and Hagler in a sprint finish. Joost Zeegers and John Depalma teamed up to take the bronze.

The Lanier junior mens team of Joseph Carrillo and David Cohen had a very impressive showing. They battled with Zeegers and Depalma for the 20 K Junior distance. Zeegers and Depalma would gain on the water, Carrillo and Cohen would edge ahead on the portages.
