They’ve been playing our song!!
July 10, 2005 Lac Beauport, Quebec - 2005 Pan American Canoe / Kayak Championships.
The Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club Summer Racing tour concluded today with fabulous performances at the Pan American Championships in Lac Beauport, Quebec! The United States National anthem was played nine times for US Gold Medals in stark contrast to the 1996 Olympic Games where no US canoe / kayak athlete even made a final. Six of the 9 United States Gold Medal winning teams contained 1996 Olympic legacy athletes from the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club.
In addition to some history making performances by our more experienced athletes, each of the 30 or so athletes on the tour gained valuable racing experience which will serve them well in the years to come. Please go to http://www.canoekayak.ca/eng_cat.cfm?ID=42 for the full results.
Many thanks and congratulations go to new Lanier head coaches Guy Wilding and Shelley Oates-Wilding for their leadership and commitment to teaching our athletes to live their lives with purpose, passion and to give their best in everything they do.
The team is currently loading up and will begin the 20 plus hour return trip by charter bus. The US Senior World Championships team members will be finalized tomorrow based on the results of the past two weeks.
The US Junior and Senior World championships teams will be making their final preparations in the next few weeks. Lanier coach Guy Wilding has been named as the USA Junior World Championship team coach and will lead the trip to Szeged, Hungary in August. Travel costs continue to mount for the athletes who have qualified for these teams. The USACK will not be funding the 2005 Junior and Senior World Championships tours. You can help support local athletes who have qualified the Junior and Senior World Championships teams by making your tax deductible donations to:
