GAINESVILLE - The Hong Kong Association of
Atlanta is bringing its 10th Annual Hong Kong Dragonboat Festival back to the
Lake Lanier Olympic Canoe / Kayak and Rowing Venue in Gainesville on September
10th.
Gene Hanratty, Senior Consultant for the Hong Kong Information Center in
Atlanta, made the announcement today (Saturday) at the venue's finish line tower.
"The Gainesville community has been absolutely fantastic from the every
beginning," he said.
"This is the second venue that we've been to to have this. We used to have it at
Stone Mountain, and they didn't quite meet the demands," he continued, "You had
the '96 Olympics here. It doesn't get any better than this."
Sarah Wu, the director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York,
was excited about the event, "Let's try to get the community to support this,
get more teams, have fun."
"You are very lucky in having such a superb site at Lake Lanier," she said,
"This community and people from Atlanta should enjoy this great event. It's a
great event for family, and for school kids, and also for the professional
rowers. It's one of the best sites that I've seen,"
The growing event is expecting around fifty teams and welcomes families,
businesses and any group that can gather 22 crew members to form a team and sign
up.
