Marathon Update 05/26/06

Attention all Marathon Paddlers. This is the time of the year when things really get serious. We have one week until the 2006 US Team is selected. This year’s Team Trials will be hosted by the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club in Gainesville, GA. This year’s race will be a showdown to remember. Leading contenders heading into the race include top ranking athletes such as Robert Clegg, Joseph Carillo, and Reid Hyle, plus 2005 National Team Members such as Barend Spies, David Cohen, and Emily Vinson. Please visit LCKC’s site for more information (www.lckc.org). This race will select athletes to race in World Cup and World Championship competitions. The World Cups include Zamora Spain and Trencin Slovakia. The 2006 World Championships will be held in Tremolat France.

Note on 2006 Trials:

Due to the expected high temperatures, the start of the races has been moved up one hour. For example the Men’s K-1 race will start at 10am.

After Trials the racing season just keeps rolling. There are a few big races coming up including the B-ranked 4th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee Race on June 10th in Atlanta, GA. This 10 km race will score 80 points towards national ranking. For more information go to www.chattahoochee.org.

Next up is the A-ranked Michiana Paddlefest on  June 25th in South Bend, IN. This 20 km A-ranked race will score a maximum of 90 points. For more information go to www.paddlefest.org.

Good luck to all the athletes trying out for the US Team.

Spanish invitation to K4 marathon event

We were only informed about this yesterday, hence the late notice.
The team will be selected from the Marathon Trials K2 next weekend.  Hopefully many will be able to attend.  Please note that this is a National Team regardless of age or gender, there are no divisions in this race.  Spain wants the top 4 paddlers of the invited country to attend this event.
Regards,
Robert
