The Rotary Club of Peachtree City announces the 2nd annual Dragon Boat Races and International Festival will be held at Drake Field on Lake Peachtree on Saturday, September 27 beginning at 8 a.m. Dragon boat racing is the world’s fastest growing water sport. It combines tradition with modern day teamwork, enthusiasm and strategy. Dragon boating is a great way for corporations, organizations and youth groups to get involved in a dynamic setting designed to promote team building.

Teams consist of 25 persons: 20 paddlers, one drummer one steer person and three alternates. Last year over 2,500 attended to watch 21 boats compete. The Rotary Club of Peachtree City expects this year’s event to be much larger.

The International Festival will be held in conjunction with the races.
The objective of the Rotary Festival is to raise awareness of our cultural diversity and increase interest in international commerce through the interaction of the community, business and the arts. What a better way to learn about other cultures than to enjoy the food and fun!

There will be food vendors in colorfully decorated tents. You can dine on Caribbean Jerk Chicken, Hot Dogs, Polish Sausages, BBQ or Chinese or Italian cuisine.
Be entertained by Irish, Folk and Greek dancers as well as Adoptive Chinese American children singing. There will be vintage mustangs on display, origami demonstrations, as well as a children’s bounce structure. Come be part of the joy and entertainment of this inaugural day of fun and festivity. The flavor of the wonderful food will be complemented by spotlights of entertainment. There will be something for everyone!

Morgan House, center, stands on the medal podium
at the PanAmerican Canoe/Kayak Championships
in Montreal in May. House just missed out on a spot
in the 2008 Olympic team today in Hungary.
The Gainesville Times - June 7th, 2008
SZEGED, Hungary -- Gainesville native Morgan House missed out on making the 2008 Olympics by little more than a second on Saturday at the ICF World Cup Regatta in Szeged, Hungary.
House finished finished fourth in the men's one-man sprint kayak (K1) 500 meter finals, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 48.468 seconds -- but fellow U.S. competitor Rami Zur finished second (1:47.112), beating out House for the lone remaining spot on the U.S. national team headed to Beijing.
House, who defeated Zur at the U.S. team trials this April, had to defeat Zur twice in competitive races to earn the spot that Zur had previously qualified for at the 2007 world championships.
The Gainesville native has said previously that he will also train for the 2012 Olympics in London, regardless of what happens in 2008.

Eat Great in 2008 Raffle! Buy your tickets from an LCKC member today!!
The Polar Bear Swim has been the most attention getting activity we do at LCKC. A fun way to start the year for many, it is also a fund raiser for the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.
Theme this year is ‘Low Tide’. There will not be high jumps due to low water levels (safety first!), though there is plenty of room for mass jumps on the docks, which will be stationed on the finish tower side.
