Each summer, LCKC hosts several 1-week sessions of summer day camp. Designed for kids age 7-12, campers are introduced to the basics of kayak and canoe in a safe and fun environment. The highlight of each session is Barge Day when the campers travel by water from Clarks Bridge Park to Laurel Park and enjoy a cookout. Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of other activities, such as swimming, fishing, scavenger hunts, kickball, 4 square tournaments, arts and crafts and more.
Many of the athletes in our Developmental, and High Performance programs started out as campers that quickly learned to love canoeing and kayaking on Lake Lanier.
The Beginner Racing League (BRL) is a 6-week introductory program to flat-water canoe and kayak racing for kids age 10-14. (born 2003-2007) Held in the Spring and Fall of each year, kids learn paddle basics, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. The grand finale is the “Fungatta” where the BRL teams race against each other on the 1996 Olympic course for individual medals and team bragging rights.
Teams practice twice a week, and you can pick a team that works with your schedule. Our trained coaching staff provides a safe and fun environment for your child to learn canoe and kayaking skills, and your child will beam with pride when they beat their personal best time or move up to a “tippier” boat.
The Stingrays team is a paddling program for Beginner Racing League participants born between 2005 – 2007. This program is less strenuous than the Developmental Team, while still offering young athletes the opportunity to improve both their kayak and canoe skills over the summer. All equipment is provided, including life jackets. There is a maximum of 20 participants.
Check back soon for more information about the practice schedule and registration information.
Have you been thinking about learning to kayak? It is never too late to get started! Over the course of six hours, you will learn basic paddling skills, water safety, and gain exposure to many different boats. Lessons are taught in a relaxed, fun atmosphere that stresses the enjoyment of the lake in a healthy, environmentally friendly way. If you like it, you should join our Masters’ program!
