TOTALLY NEW!  The Sixth Annual Gainesville/Hall Dragonboat Challenge features new boats holding 10 Paddlers plus your Drummer, making it easier to get your coworkers and friends together and form a team!

Also new is the Date - May 4th!  This allows our schools to field teams much easier than the June date!

Looking for a great team building opportunity for your corporate, governmental, or community organization? Challenge your local competition at the sixth annual Gainesville/Hall Dragon Boat Challenge and help Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club (LCKC) support the Hall County Special Olympics program. Recruit a team of 10 people (no experience or equipment required) to paddle a boat. Here is how it works:

  • Designate a team captain who will handle the registration process.
  • Register the team and pay the team entry fee of $400
  • Schedule a practice time after business hours the week before the race
  • Show up at the scheduled practice time and then again for a fun day of racing on the lake

Entry includes a one hour practice after working hours at the Olympic Venue in the week preceding the event. Teams will be coached by experienced dragon boat paddlers including some of the local athletes of current World Champions, the United States National Dragon Boat Team.

LCKC provides a steersperson and you can bring your own drummer or we will provide one for you. Teams will compete in distances of 200 meter, 100 meter, and an optional 1,000 meter race in a looped course.

Award categories include: highest fund-raising team, best costumed drummer, most enthusiastic team, and race awards 1st through 3rd in categories such as; Educational, Municipal, Corporate, Community, and Open, when 3 or more teams are under that category. Plus, an overall champion award based on the Dragon Final! Teams in the Open category must have at least four women plus a drummer.

All types of groups are welcome – small and large corporations, fire departments and law enforcement, youth sports organizations, schools, churches, neighborhoods, etc.
